In 1966, Rive Gauche was born, the first luxury prêt-à-porter line launched by a haute couture maison: a revolutionary move that made couture style more accessible and closer to real life. Saint Laurent designed pieces destined to become cultural icons: the Le Smoking, the first women's tuxedo and a symbol of power and seduction; the safari jacket, the reinterpreted trench, sheer blouses, and the art-inspired Mondrian dresses. Its collections celebrate a strong, free, and magnetic woman, often inspired by its muses—including Catherine Deneuve, Loulou de la Falaise, and Betty Catroux.

In the '70s and '80s, the brand explored global influences, from Africa to Russia to rock culture, continuously redefining the concept of modern femininity. Following the designer's retirement in 2002 and his passing in 2008, the maison has gone through several creative phases.

A significant shift arrived with Hedi Slimane in 2012, who rebranded the prêt-à-porter line as Saint Laurent, introduced a rock and contemporary aesthetic, and redefined the maison's image, attracting a new generation. In 2016, Anthony Vaccarello took over, continuing the YSL legacy with a sensual, architectural, and deeply Parisian approach.
