The story of the piece
Prada
Prada Luna Rossa leather ankle boots with rubber sole
Prada is one of Italy's most iconic fashion houses, founded in 1913 in Milan by Mario Prada. Initially, Prada was a small luxury leather goods boutique, specializing in bags, travel trunks, and refined accessories made with high-quality materials. The boutique quickly gained an elite clientele, including the Italian royal family, which granted Prada the prestigious title of official supplier to the Royal House.
However, the brand underwent a significant transformation in the 1970s under the leadership of Miuccia Prada, Mario's granddaughter. In 1978, Miuccia took control of the company and, with the support of her husband Patrizio Bertelli, expanded the brand's horizons. Miuccia introduced a revolutionary approach to fashion, combining artisanal tradition with a modern, minimalist aesthetic. One of her early successes was the creation of a black nylon bag, which challenged classical luxury standards but immediately became an icon.
In the 1980s and '90s, Prada became synonymous with understated luxury, featuring clean lines, sober colors, and an intellectual elegance that moved away from traditional opulence. The women's prêt-à-porter collection launched in 1989 consolidated Prada's reputation as a fashion innovator.
Over the decades, Prada has diversified its portfolio with the creation of menswear, eyewear, fragrances, and footwear lines. It has also acquired other luxury brands, such as Church’s and Car Shoe, expanding its global influence. Prada has continued to redefine the concept of modern luxury, balancing tradition and innovation, and maintaining a dominant influence on runways and in contemporary pop culture.
Today, Prada is considered a symbol of sophisticated and intellectual style, with a strong impact on both fashion and culture.
