The story of the piece
Saint Laurent
Saint Laurent Theo suede ankle boots
The history of Saint Laurent is deeply linked to the figure of its founder, Yves Saint Laurent, one of the most influential creatives of the 20th century. Born in 1936 in Oran, Algeria, Yves Saint Laurent showed an extraordinary talent for fashion from a very young age. At just 21, he became the creative director of Dior, but in 1961, together with his partner Pierre Bergé, he founded his own maison in Paris, marking the beginning of a true stylistic revolution.
Saint Laurent radically changed the way women dressed, introducing garments inspired by the menswear wardrobe and transforming them into symbols of empowerment. In 1966, he created "Le Smoking", the women's tuxedo, which became an icon of elegance and audacity. In the same year, he opened the first Rive Gauche boutique, bringing haute couture towards luxury prêt-à-porter and making refined style more accessible to a wider audience.
In the sixties and seventies, the brand drew inspiration from art, culture, and the social movements of the time. Famous are the Mondrian dresses, the references to African, Russian, and Oriental aesthetics, as well as the innovative use of color and materials. Saint Laurent did not follow trends: he anticipated them, creating a new and powerful aesthetic language.
After the retirement of Yves Saint Laurent in 2002 and his passing in 2008, the maison has gone through several creative phases, while keeping its DNA intact. In the 21st century, the brand has been able to renew itself with a modern, more rock and minimalist vision, while remaining faithful to its original spirit. Today, Saint Laurent represents a balance between Parisian elegance, sensuality, and rebellion, continuing to be an essential reference point in the international fashion landscape.
