The story of the piece
Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton Sully MM Monogram canvas shoulder bag
Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854 in Paris by Louis Vuitton Malletier, a visionary artisan specializing in travel trunks. In an era when modern tourism was emerging, Vuitton revolutionized the industry by introducing flat trunks, which were more practical to stack than the domed ones in use at the time. The quality of the materials, the waterproof fabrics, and the exceptional craftsmanship quickly made the brand a favorite of the European elite.
In 1896, his son Georges created the famous LV monogram, along with the floral motifs that would become a permanent symbol of the maison and a tool to protect against imitations. Throughout the 20th century, Louis Vuitton expanded worldwide, maintaining a strong connection to the art of travel and functional luxury.
In the 1980s, the brand became part of the LVMH group, ushering in a new era of global growth. The stylistic turning point arrived in 1997 with the appointment of Marc Jacobs, the first creative director of the fashion line. Jacobs transformed the maison into an international benchmark, introducing ready-to-wear, footwear, and iconic artistic collaborations, such as those with Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami, which reinterpreted the monogram in a pop and contemporary way.
In 2013, Nicolas Ghesquière took over creative direction of the women's line, bringing a futuristic and architectural aesthetic that further modernized the maison's language. In parallel, the men's line gained new momentum in 2018 with Virgil Abloh, whose revolutionary approach fused streetwear, luxury, and youth culture, marking a historic moment for global fashion.
Today, Louis Vuitton is one of the most powerful and recognized brands in international luxury. It continues to represent innovation, craftsmanship, and the spirit of travel, keeping the legendary DNA created over 160 years ago intact.
