The story of the piece

Gucci

Gucci Peggy velvet platform sandals

Gucci is one of the most iconic fashion brands in the world. It was founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci, who initially opened a shop specializing in luxury travel goods and leatherware, inspired by the aristocratic elegance he observed while working as a porter in London. His products were distinguished by Tuscan craftsmanship and refined taste.

Gucci Peggy velvet platform sandals In the 1930s and '40s, the company introduced distinctive symbols such as the diamond pattern and the famous horsebit, inspired by the equestrian world. During the Second World War, to compensate for the leather shortage, Gucci introduced the hemp bag with GG pattern, one of the first examples of creativity in times of crisis.

In the 1950s and '60s, under the guidance of Guccio's sons, Gucci expanded internationally, opening boutiques in Milan, New York, London, and Paris. During this period, iconic products were born, such as the Bamboo bag and the horsebit loafer, worn by celebrities like Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy, and Elizabeth Taylor.

In the 1980s and '90s, the company experienced internal turbulence and an identity crisis, until its relaunch in 1994 with Tom Ford as creative director. His bold, sensual, and provocative style relaunched Gucci as a symbol of contemporary fashion.

In 2004, the brand became part of the French group Kering. After Ford, other designers such as Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele (from 2015 to 2022) marked the brand's evolution, with Michele introducing an eclectic, vintage, and gender-fluid style.

Today, under the creative direction of Sabato De Sarno, Gucci continues to reinvent itself, remaining faithful to its DNA of luxury, craftsmanship, and innovation. Gucci represents a perfect balance between history, Italian elegance, and avant-garde.
