On March 26, 1881, Guccio Gucci, founder of the Maison, was born in Florence. In 1897, the young Florentine moved to London, where he worked as a porter at The Savoy hotel; the jet-set allure and the fascination with an affluent lifestyle and beauty drove him to open his boutique; Guccio was inspired by luxury and quality, gradually expanding the product range to include other fashion accessories such as bags, belts, and gloves.
