The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci 1970 exotic skin shoulder bag
Gucci was founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci, inspired by the elegance of the international travelers he encountered while working in hotels in London and Paris. Upon returning to Italy, he opened a boutique specializing in luggage and leather goods made with selected materials and excellent craftsmanship. Equestrian and aristocratic inspirations became part of the brand's DNA: iconic details such as the bit, the GG canvas and the green-red-green stripe were born.
In the '50s and '60s, Gucci captured the attention of Hollywood stars, artists, and the international jet-set. The maison became a symbol of Italian luxury thanks to creations such as the Bamboo bag, the bit loafer and the Jackie bag, which defined a new concept of global elegance. Expansion continued in the United States and Europe, consolidating Gucci's image as a prestigious and sought-after brand.
In the '80s, family tensions and management difficulties led to a period of instability, but a rebirth arrived in the '90s thanks to Tom Ford, appointed creative director in 1994. Ford reinterpreted Gucci with a sensual, glamorous, and provocative twist, rapidly transforming the maison into a cultural and commercial phenomenon. The brand became one of the most influential players in the fashion landscape.
In 2006, Frida Giannini took over, focusing on a more romantic aesthetic and a revival of the maison's historical codes. The next turning point came in 2015 with Alessandro Michele, who revolutionized the brand with a maximalist, eclectic, and vintage-pop imaginary, transforming Gucci into a global phenomenon loved by new generations.
Since 2023, the creative direction has been entrusted to Sabato De Sarno, who introduces a more essential and contemporary vision, marking a new evolutionary phase for the maison.
