The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci silk maxi dress
The history of Gucci
Gucci is one of the most famous and influential luxury maisons in the world, a symbol of Made in Italy excellence. Founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci, the company began as a workshop specializing in the production of high-quality travel goods and leather accessories. Inspired by the elegance of the international clientele he encountered while working at prestigious European hotels, Guccio Gucci developed a refined style that combined craftsmanship, functionality, and luxury.
In the 1930s and 40s, the brand expanded its production by introducing handbags, suitcases, shoes, and accessories for an increasingly exclusive clientele. During the period of restrictions due to the Second World War, Gucci demonstrated great innovative capacity, using alternative materials such as hemp and bamboo. From this experimentation was born the famous Bamboo Bag, still today one of the maison's most iconic models.
In the 1950s and 60s, Gucci conquered the international market, opening boutiques in the major fashion capitals and becoming the preferred brand of celebrities, aristocrats, and jet set personalities. During this period, distinctive symbols were born, such as the GG pattern, the green-red-green Web stripe, and the horsebit inspired by the equestrian world, elements that still characterize the brand's collections today.
After a period of difficulty in the 1980s, Gucci regained success thanks to a profound corporate reorganization and the creative direction of Tom Ford, who in the 1990s relaunched the maison with a sensual, modern, and sophisticated style. Subsequently, designers such as Frida Giannini, Alessandro Michele, and Sabato De Sarno have reinterpreted the brand's identity, keeping it at the center of the international scene.
