Christian Dior by John Galliano animal print silk top

The story of Christian Dior began in 1946 in Paris, when the designer Christian Dior founded his maison at number 30 Avenue Montaigne. From the very first collection in 1947, nicknamed “New Look”, Dior revolutionized postwar fashion by introducing feminine silhouettes with cinched waists, soft shoulders, and full skirts, restoring elegance and luxury after years of austerity.

Success was immediate and international: Dior became a symbol of the rebirth of Parisian fashion and haute couture. In the following years, the maison expanded its offering to include fragrances, accessories, and prêt-à-porter, consolidating a sophisticated and innovative identity. Upon the sudden death of Christian Dior in 1957, creative direction passed to the young Yves Saint Laurent, who carried the legacy forward with a more modern style.

Over the decades, several creative directors – including Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, and John Galliano – have reinterpreted the maison's codes, keeping its original spirit alive. Galliano, in particular, introduced a theatrical and bold vision, while Raf Simons brought back an elegant minimalism.

Today, under the guidance of Maria Grazia Chiuri for womenswear collections, Dior continues to evolve, with a strong focus on craftsmanship, femininity, and contemporary themes. The maison has become a global benchmark in luxury, capable of combining tradition and innovation.

Christian Dior remains a symbol of French excellence today, celebrated for its ability to constantly reinvent fashion without losing its historical identity.
