In 1985, she announced the launch of her eponymous brand, and in 1992, she presented her first runway show in Paris. Her style was immediately distinguished by a unique aesthetic language: dark romanticism, minimalism, asymmetry, layering, fluid cuts, combined with a sense of elegant decadence. The predominant use of black became her signature, alongside natural materials such as leather, silk, and linen. Her collections are closer to poetry than commercial fashion; they explore dualities such as light/shadow, strength/fragmentation, and masculine/feminine.

The brand has grown without ever betraying its artistic identity. In the 2000s, Ann Demeulemeester became a global benchmark for avant-garde fashion, beloved for its creative sincerity and its ability to unite rigor and fragility. Her runway shows are intimate performances rather than mere spectacles: dark atmospheres, hypnotic sounds, and garments that tell both a personal and a collective story.

In 2013, after decades of success, Ann decided to step down as creative director of her brand, stating that she had said everything she wanted to say through fashion. The brand has continued under various creative directors, maintaining the fundamental elements of her poetic vision.

In 2021, the maison announced the return of the brand to the hands of the Demeulemeester family, with a renewed desire to preserve the founder's legacy.
