The story of the piece
Valentino
Valentino cotton and silk cropped blazer
The Valentino maison was founded in 1960 in Rome by designer Valentino Garavani, together with his partner and life companion Giancarlo Giammetti. From its very beginnings, Valentino has distinguished itself through an elegant, sophisticated style deeply inspired by the traditions of Italian and French haute couture, combining craftsmanship with timeless luxury.
Valentino cotton and silk cropped blazer. The international debut took place in 1962 with a fashion show in Florence, in the historic Sala Bianca of Palazzo Pitti, which established Valentino among the great names of global fashion. In the 60s and 70s, he became the preferred designer of the aristocracy and the international jet set, dressing personalities such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Princess Margaret.
Iconic is the "Valentino Red," a distinctive shade of bright red that has become a symbol of the maison. Evening gowns, refined silhouettes, romantic details, and precious embroideries define a recognizable aesthetic, synonymous with femininity and glamour.
In the 80s and 90s, Valentino expanded the brand, launching menswear, accessories, and fragrances, consolidating its position in the global luxury market. In 1998, the maison was sold to an industrial group, but Valentino remained creative director until his retirement in 2008, celebrated with an event fashion show in Rome.
After various creative directions, in 2016 Pierpaolo Piccioli became the sole creative director, bringing a more contemporary and inclusive vision. His aesthetic blends couture heritage with new experimentation in shapes, colors, and identity, making Valentino one of the most relevant brands even for new generations.
Today, Valentino is a symbol of eternal beauty, haute couture, and innovation, capable of combining history and modernity in every collection. The headquarters remains in Rome, the beating heart of its creative spirit.
