The story of the piece

Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent suede pumps with patent toe

Yves Saint Laurent was one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, revolutionizing fashion with elegance and innovation. Born in Algeria in 1936, he moved to Paris at a very young age, where he began working for Christian Dior. After Dior's premature death in 1957, at only 21 years old, Saint Laurent became the creative director of the Maison, launching the famous “Trapèze” collection that established him in the fashion world.

Here he introduced revolutionary pieces that redefined the female wardrobe. Among his most iconic creations are the “Le Smoking” women's tuxedo (1966), the safari jacket, and the trench coat. He was one of the first designers to bring haute couture to the streets, giving rise to the concept of prêt-à-porter with the Rive Gauche line, making fashion more accessible and democratic.

Saint Laurent drew inspiration from art and culture, paying homage to artists such as Mondrian and Matisse in his collections. He dressed celebrities and icons like Catherine Deneuve, Bianca Jagger, and Paloma Picasso, consolidating his status as a fashion genius.

In the '80s and '90s, the brand maintained its influence, but Saint Laurent retired in 2002, closing his career with a spectacular retrospective fashion show. He passed away in 2008, leaving an invaluable legacy in the fashion world.

Today, under the creative direction of Anthony Vaccarello, Yves Saint Laurent continues to be a symbol of luxury, elegance, and rebellion, remaining faithful to the innovative vision of its founder.
