The story of the piece
Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton Reade PM Monogram Vernis handbag
Louis Vuitton is one of the most prestigious and recognized luxury maisons in the world, a symbol of elegance, innovation, and French savoir-faire. Founded in 1854 in Paris by Louis Vuitton, the company began as a workshop specializing in the creation of high-quality travel trunks. Thanks to its extraordinary craftsmanship, Louis Vuitton revolutionized the sector by introducing flat-topped trunks, which were lighter, more resistant, and easily stackable during train and ship travel, meeting the needs of the growing European bourgeoisie.
After the founder's death, his son Georges Vuitton continued the company's expansion and in 1896 created the famous Monogram Canvas, characterized by the “LV” initials and floral motifs. Created to counter imitations, the Monogram has become one of the most recognizable and iconic symbols of luxury fashion.
Throughout the twentieth century, Louis Vuitton progressively expanded its offering, moving from luggage to the production of handbags, small leather goods, accessories, and travel items, always maintaining high standards of quality and artisanal craftsmanship. Models such as the Speedy, the Keepall, the Noé, and the Alma are today considered true design icons.
In 1987, Louis Vuitton merged with Moët Hennessy, giving rise to the LVMH group, the largest luxury group in the world. Ten years later, in 1997, Marc Jacobs became the first creative director of the maison, introducing prêt-à-porter collections and launching prestigious collaborations with contemporary artists such as Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama.
