The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci leather Princetown slippers
Gucci is one of the most renowned Italian fashion houses, a synonym for luxury, craftsmanship, and innovation. Founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci, the brand began as a workshop specializing in leather goods and travel items. Guccio was inspired by the elegance of the luggage he saw while working at the Savoy Hotel in London.

In the 1930s and '40s, Gucci established itself through the quality of its items, launching distinctive symbols such as the metal horsebit, the green-red-green web (inspired by saddle straps), and the Bamboo bag, which remains an icon today. During the war, due to material shortages, the company introduced printed hemp, which led to the creation of the famous GG monogram, in honour of the founder.
In the 1950s and '60s, Gucci became a global brand, beloved by stars such as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie Kennedy, to whom the famous Jackie bag was dedicated. After Guccio's death in 1953, the company remained in the hands of his sons, but in the following years it was marked by family struggles and controversial management.
The true revival arrived in the '90s with the arrival of designer Tom Ford, who transformed Gucci into a symbol of sexy, modern glamour. Subsequently, creative direction passed to other designers until 2015, when Alessandro Michele revolutionised the brand's aesthetic with a mix of romanticism, vintage, and gender-fluid styles.
Today Gucci is part of the Kering group and is one of the most influential fashion brands in the world. The maison continues to evolve, combining Italian heritage, innovation, and a focus on sustainability.
