The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci Persuit Monogram canvas and rubber slides
The history of Gucci began in 1921 in Florence, when Guccio Gucci founded a small workshop specializing in leather goods and luggage. After working as a porter at the Savoy Hotel in London, Guccio became fascinated by the elegance of international clientele, an influence that would shape the brand's refined style.
In the 1930s and '40s, Gucci distinguished itself through artisanal quality and the ability to innovate even in difficult times. During material shortages, creative solutions such as the bamboo handle were introduced, destined to become an icon of the brand. In the post-war period, the company grew rapidly with the opening of boutiques in Milan, Rome, and New York.
Between the 1950s and '70s, Gucci became a symbol of global luxury, admired by cinema stars and members of high society. Distinctive elements such as the horsebit and the green-red-green web consolidated the maison's identity. However, in the 1980s, family tensions and management difficulties led to a period of decline.
The rebirth occurred in the 1990s thanks to new management and creative director Tom Ford, who relaunched the brand with a modern and provocative style. Subsequently, under the direction of Alessandro Michele, Gucci experienced a new creative phase characterized by an eclectic and innovative aesthetic.
Today, Gucci is part of the Kering group and is one of the most influential brands in the world, a symbol of craftsmanship, creativity, and contemporary luxury.
