In 1947, he presented his first collection, which went down in history as the “New Look”: rounded shoulders, cinched waists, and full, structured skirts. It was an epochal turning point after the years of wartime rationing; the New Look celebrated the return of femininity, luxury, and couture. Dior redesigned the female silhouette with a romantic and sculptural approach, becoming a symbol of rebirth and optimism.

In the following years, the maison introduced pieces that would become permanent stylistic codes: the Bar suit, floral volumes, the “H” and “A” silhouettes, and an elegance that was modest yet rich in sartorial detail. Concurrently, Dior expanded the brand with iconic fragrances such as Miss Dior, dedicated to his sister Catherine.

The sudden death of Christian Dior in 1957 opened a new creative phase. The young Yves Saint Laurent, his assistant, took over the direction and introduced a more modern and youthful style. In the following years, key figures such as Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, and John Galliano, who brought theatricality and experimentation to the 1990s, took turns at the helm.

In 2012, Raf Simons arrived, reinterpreting the Dior heritage with architectural minimalism. Since 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri has been the first female creative director of the maison, celebrating a contemporary femininity linked to cultural, artisanal, and empowerment themes.
