The story of the piece
Manolo Blahnik
Manolo Blahnik Hangisi silk satin pumps
The story of Manolo Blahnik is that of a visionary who transformed the women's shoe into a work of art. Born in 1942 in Santa Cruz de La Palma, in the Canary Islands, to a Spanish mother and a Czech father, Blahnik grew up in a cosmopolitan and creative environment. After studying literature and architecture in Geneva, he moved to Paris to deepen his passion for fashion and, in 1969, settled in London, where his destiny took shape.
In 1970, during a visit to the legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland of Vogue America, Manolo showed some set and dress sketches. Vreeland, struck by his shoe designs, encouraged him to dedicate himself entirely to that world. Shortly after, Blahnik created his first footwear collection for Ossie Clark, the iconic designer of 1970s London fashion.
In 1971, he opened his first boutique in Chelsea, London, and quickly conquered the fashion elite. His shoes, characterized by slim heels, elegant lines, and impeccable craftsmanship, became symbols of femininity and desire. Manolo is famous for personally designing every model and supervising production, which is still handmade in Italy today.
In the 1990s and 2000s, his creations gained worldwide fame also thanks to the series Sex and the City, where the "Manolos" became an object of desire for millions of women. Among the iconic models, the Hangisi, the BB, and the Chaos stand out.
Today, Manolo Blahnik is recognized as one of the greatest luxury footwear masters, celebrated for his artistic vision, attention to detail, and ability to combine tradition, elegance, and timeless fantasy.
