The story of the piece
Valentino
Valentino Garavani Rockstud patent leather tapered heel mules
Valentino Garavani, founder of the eponymous maison, was born in 1932 in Voghera and showed a strong inclination for design and fashion from a very young age. After studying in Paris at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture, he trained in French ateliers, developing a refined aesthetic sensibility and an innate taste for glamour. In 1960, he opened his atelier in Rome, on Via dei Condotti, giving rise to a maison destined to become an international symbol of Italian elegance.
Success came quickly thanks to his couture vision, recognizable for the masterful use of fabrics, impeccable lines, and a preference for sophisticated femininity. In 1962, Valentino walked the runway in Florence, consolidating his fame and presenting one of his most famous codes to the world: Rosso Valentino, a vibrant and theatrical shade of red that would become the aesthetic signature of the maison.
In the '60s and '70s, Valentino dressed film stars, princesses, and international icons, including Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor. His ability to combine luxury, romance, and perfect proportions made him one of the most beloved designers of the era. In 1968, he introduced the White Collection, a celebration of purity and minimalist elegance that revolutionized haute couture taste.
During the '80s and '90s, Valentino consolidated his empire by opening boutiques worldwide, expanding into accessories, and entering prêt-à-porter, while always maintaining a rigorous attention to couture aesthetics.
In 2008, the designer retired, leaving a creative legacy founded on timeless grace, luxury, and romance. The direction of the maison continues through designers who reinterpret his DNA with a contemporary touch.
