Roger Vivier patent leather heeled ballerinas After studying sculpture at the École des Beaux-Arts, Vivier began creating shoes in the 1930s, collaborating with brands such as Elsa Schiaparelli. His talent led him to design footwear for stars such as Marlene Dietrich and Joséphine Baker. However, the true turning point came in 1953, when he created the shoes for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

In 1954, he introduced the famous stiletto heel, becoming a pioneer of a new feminine silhouette. In the 1960s, Vivier consolidated his fame through his collaboration with Christian Dior and the launch of the famous pumps with a square metal buckle: the “Belle Vivier”, worn by Catherine Deneuve in Luis Buñuel's film Belle de Jour. This model became a timeless icon of style and sophistication.

After Vivier's death in 1998, the brand was relaunched in the early 2000s by Diego Della Valle, president of the Tod’s group, who brought the brand back into vogue with a contemporary approach that remained faithful to the founder's artistic legacy. In 2003, Bruno Frisoni became creative director, followed in 2019 by Gherardo Felloni.
